Many use credit, savings for groceries in 2025

(CNN)– One-in-five Americans pulled money from savings to pay for groceries last year.

That’s among several findings by the Urban Institute, a D.C. based nonpartisan group that tracks economic and social policies annually.

The latest survey for the year

2025 shows nearly 35% of consumers bought groceries with a credit card but paid the bill in full.

But one-in-five people using credit could not pay the bill back in full with nearly 9% not always able to make a minimum payment.
