Murdaugh defense files motion for independent DNA analysis
Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– Defense attorneys for Alex Murdaugh filed a motion Thursday to stop SLED from re-testing DNA found underneath Maggie Murdaugh’s fingernails before an independent analysis can be conducted.
In the motion, attorneys argue that SLED’s testing could destroy evidence indicating the presence of an unknown male.
Alex Murdaugh was granted a re-trial following his previous conviction for the murders of his wife Maggie and son Paul.
The re-trial will begin in April of 2027
