Parent arrested for having a gun on school grounds

Richland Co., S.C. (WOLO)– Richland Co. deputies say a parent is facing charges after bringing a gun onto school property.

Investigators say Aprill Yakubu, 52,was in possession of a firearm at Westwood High School Tuesday.

Investigators say at 9am a private security officer notified a school resource officer that Yakubu walked through the metal detector with a gun in her purse.

Deputies say she said she forgot she had it when she arrived with her child for school orientation.

Officials say she is charged with Carrying a Weapon on School Grounds and taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where she is awaiting a bond hearing.
