KCSO deputy injured following rear end collision involving impaired driver

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Kershaw County deputy is recovering after a rear end collision involving an impaired driver, says the sheriff’s office.

Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office says Master Deputy Tashawn Moore had completed a traffic stop and was finishing administrative paperwork inside his stationary patrol vehicle when an approaching driver struck the rear side of the vehicle.

Both the deputy and the driver of the vehicle were taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

They both are expected to make a full recovery, according to the KCSO.

“I am glad God was with our deputy last night,” says Sheriff Lee Boan. “This is just a grim reminder of the dangers our deputies deal with on any given day. They all know this, and yet they still come to work every day to protect and serve their communities. Blessed are the peacemakers.”

The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) responded to the scene and is leading the investigation. 

SCHP has charged Shakyla Kieyonda Washington, 34, of Sumter with driving under the influence (DUI), driving under suspension (DUS), and endangering emergency service personnel.

Washington is currently held at the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
