Ring hopes new encryption tech will ease fears around home security cameras

(CNN)– Ring is rolling-out new encryption technology it says will give customers more control over their home security footage.

The Amazon-owned company calls the technology “take”, short for “Throw Away The Key.”

Ring says videos stored in the cloud will be locked so only the customer has ongoing access.

Ring can temporarily get a virtual key for features like video search, but only with the customer’s approval.

Afterward, the company says it will “Throw Away The Key” ending its access.
