Appeals court ruling on SC’s absentee voting law

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A federal appeals court ruled South Carolina’s absentee voting law violates the U.S. Constitution.

The plaintiffs argued the state’s rules treat people differently based on age as voters 65 and older have been able to cast an absentee ballot by mail without providing a reason.

While younger voters have to meet specific requirements to qualify.

The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals panel agreed which sends the case back to the district court.

The state can still appeal the panel’s ruling.
