Funeral date announced for Benedict College’s Willie Washington

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Funeral service for a fixture in the Benedict College family has been announced.

The funeral for Willie Washington will take place Wednesday, September 9 at 11 a.m. at First Nazareth Baptist Church, 2351 Gervais St.

Benedict College announced Washington died on Monday. He was 79-years-old.

Washington started his career in Benedict as the men’s basketball coach in 1988 and was named the Athletic Director in 1998.

During his tenure, the Benedict Tigers won 50 SIAC championships across 12 sports.
