Sumter Wins 3rd Title In Last 9 Years

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO) — Wednesday night went much better for the Sumter Gamecocks than it did for the USC Gamecocks. Behind a 12-strikeout, complete game shutout by Philip Watcher, Sumter blanked Northwestern 2-0 to clinch its third class AAAA baseball state championship in the last nine years. Watcher, who plans on playing college baseball at the Citadel, also had an RBI double for the Gamecocks. The USC Gamecocks were blanked 12-0 by Mississippi St. at the SEC tournament Wednesday night.
