Gamecocks Give Montgomery Friday Start

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The Gamecocks will start the 2014 NCAA tournament with their ace on the mound. Wednesday night USC baseball announced via Twitter junior Jordan Montgomery will start Friday night’s 7 p.m. game against Campbell. The lefty from Sumter has been absolutely dominant in the NCAA tournament recently. In his last three tourney starts, Montgomery has pitched 24 straight shutout innings, striking out 20 and walking just two. Carolina coach Chad Holbrook also said on radio Wednesday Connor Bright will start Friday night’s game in right field. Bright has been battling a variety of injuries. Holbrook added that designated hitter Max Schrock is close to 100% healthy. Schrock has battled a back injury. Holbrook says as long as their healthy, Schrock and Bright will be in the Gamecocks starting lineup.
