Governor Haley Calls an End to Bikefest

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (WPDE) — According top our sister station WPDE, Haley addressed members of the media and the community this morning after a closed door meeting with area officials about this past weekend’s violence. Haley expressed her disgust at the loss of life that occurred and said that it is not something to be proud of and does not exemplify what South Carolina is about. She said there was a lack of organization and said members of her office and area officials will meet to come up with a plan to end Bikefest. Some of the area officials who met with Haley include: South Carolina Senator Luke Rankin, South Carolina Senator Greg Hembree, members of the Myrtle Beach City Council including Randall Wallace, Members of the Horry County Council including Chairman Mark Lazarus, as well as Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes. Rhodes said Haley was showed a 5 minute video of some of the things that occurred this weekend and he said it seemed to have an impact on her. Prior to addressing Bikefest Haley was speaking about Hurricane preparedness. We will have more updates on this story as it develops.
