SLED investigating security issues affecting City of Columbia services

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– SLED is investigating security issues that are affecting City of Columbia services, according to city officials.

The City of Columbia’s Information Technology Department identified suspicious activity within the network and promptly notified the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), which is assisting with and leading the investigation.

City officials says the City of Columbia is working to restore impacted applications while maintaining essential public safety and utility services.

Several citizen applications and services are currently impacted, including MyColaSC, and online services pertaining to Business Licensing, Parks & Recreation, Planning & Development Services, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Animal Services.

The City of Columbia wants to reassure residents that critical public safety and utility systems remain operational.

These systems include the Columbia Police Department, Columbia-Richland Fire Department, 911 communications, Columbia Water systems and the Payment Center, including online payment services.

While MyColaSC is impacted, residents can call 803-545-3300 to report concerns or request assistance with issues typically submitted through the application.

These include potholes, fallen trees, park equipment concerns, broken streetlights and other local service requests, according to the city.

For all emergencies, residents should continue to call 911.
