Officers were dispatched to a shooting at a home in the 5400 block of Ransom Drive shortly after 5:30 a.m. Oct. 30.

During the investigation, officers determined that the man who was shot was the aggressor in a domestic violence incident involving a mother and her son, says the police dept.

Police say Saban Burzic assaulted the mother during a dispute, and when her son tried to intervene, he tried to physically assault him.

Burzic was shot in the lower body and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police have charged him with domestic violence (third degree), and assault and battery (third degree).

“Domestic violence is not a private matter. It affects entire families and can escalate into dangerous and potentially life-threatening situations. We take these incidents seriously, and our officers remain committed to protecting victims and holding individuals accountable for acts of violence,” says Forest Acres Police Chief Don Robinson.

Police say the 20-year-old resident who fired the weapon acted in self-defense and will not face charges.
