Tanner Hoping To See Lee In Omaha

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Ray Tanner is ready to make his first trip to the College World Series as a fan. Monte Lee just has to do his part. Lee and the College of Charleston get a chance to punch their first ever ticket to Omaha this weekend in a Super Regional best-of-three series at Texas Tech that starts in Lubbock Saturday. The Cougars advanced to college baseball’s version of the Sweet 16 after rolling through the Gainesville regional last week as the #4 seed. Lee, a Lugoff native, was an assistant under Tanner at USC from 2003-08 before getting the head coaching job at his alma mater. Tanner, who won back-to-back national championships with the Gamecocks in 2010 & 2011, moved up to the USC athletics director position after taking Carolina baseball to its third straight national championship series in 2012. He waited to make his first trip to Omaha until one of his teams qualified to play in the College World Series. That happened in 2002, the first of two three-year stretches for the Gamecocks in Omaha. Click to watch interviews with Tanner and Lee leading up to Charleston’s Super Regional series.
