Apparent friendly fire kills 5 US troops in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON (AP) – An apparent instance of friendly fire has killed five U.S. troops who are part of the NATO alliance in Afghanistan. The information comes from a U.S. defense official who insisted on anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter by name. If confirmed, it would be one of the most serious cases involving coalition-on-coalition friendly fire during the nearly 14 year Afghan war.
