Berson Happy To See Soccer Success

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — World Cup fever might be new to a lot of Americans. It’s a very familiar feeling for USC soccer coach Mark Berson. For the fourth straight time, one of Berson’s former Gamecock players is participating for Team USA at the World Cup. Brad Guzan is the back-up goalkeeper for the U.S. He joins Clint Mathis and Josh Wolff as Carolina representatives on the national team. “To have them go on and be part of it is a great thing,” Berson said Monday. “Just to have a little tiny part is really gratifying. It feels great.” Berson thinks Team USA has a chance to win this year’s World Cup. The U.S. plays Belgium at 4 p.m. Tuesday for a spot in the quarterfinals. The game airs on ESPN.
