Arthur makes landfall in North Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The first named storm of the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season has made landfall in North Carolina. The Category 2 storm clipped the Outer Banks overnight into Friday morning, packing winds of about 100 miles per hour. The system brought strong winds and heavy rainfall to the North Carolina coast. Meteorologists have been monitoring the storm since it formed earlier this week, and this prompted officials to order evacuations of the affected areas prior to the storm’s arrival. The storm is expected to lift to the north and east and run parallel to the eastern coastline and is expected to touch the northeastern coastline into Canada by next week. So far, about 18,000 people are without power in North Carolina due to the storm. Make sure to tune in to Good Morning Columbia for the latest updates on Hurricane Arthur. Meteorologist Jonathan Kennedy will also have a look at the forecast for the July 4th holiday weekend.
