SC Attorney General’s Office warns of scam

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The South Carolina Attorney General’s office doesn’t want you to get duped by a scam that has already affected people in at least seven states. Officials say it involves an e-mail, stating its from the agency. The subject line reads “final legal notification,” and it claims to be an attorney retainer agreement. The e-mail apparently looks legitimate. It has the seal from the Attorney General’s Office, the US Department of Justice and a group, called Law Enforcement against Prohibition. Also included in email is this message: “All this agreement is about the legal case on [your name.] And we are going to arrest you for the same [sic]. So before we send police to your mailing address, give us a call back.” Officials say don’t respond to it. Instead, be sure to report it to authorities.
