(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., — “i’ve never seen anyone get hit, but i have seen some pretty close calls.” Brooks Herring has been working at this local restaurant for several years and says every game, and every fair bring thousands of revelers each year…to this 90 acre site…along Rosewood Drive and Bluff Road. It also brings the element of danger as cars fly down a road some say is hard to manage on foot – much less in traffic. Herring says he has had some pretty close calls himself along this very stretch of road ” i have a 9 year old and a 3 year old and so i know. you have to keep them on the side so they are not toward traffic, but on this side you’re slipping down into a ditch.” Several other people we spoke to felt the same way . One reason why State Fair officials are making provisions for your safety. The company reportedly plans to begin construction on new sidewalks, extending the pedestrian right of way by about 10 feet along that heavily traveled thoroughfare this November. Work is slated to be completed by the Summer of 2016.
