Man Faces Weapons Counts After SC Toddler Killed

DENMARK, S.C. (AP) _ A Bamberg County man faces weapons and drug charges after a toddler was shot and killed at his home last weekend. Area news organizations report that 2-year-old Hayden Mayes of Denmark died of a gunshot Sept. 13. The State Law Enforcement Division continues to investigate the shooting. Authorities say Denmark police have charged 44-year-old Sidney Davis with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen weapon and drug violations. He has not been charged in the toddler’s death. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney. Family members say it was not unusual for the child to play at Davis’ home near the toddler’s home.
