SC man arrested in boating death of 19-year-old

MANNING, S.C. (AP) — A 26-year-old Florence man has been released after being arrested in a May collision on Lake Marion that killed a 19-year-old woman.

Multiple media outlets reported that Justin Reed Walters was arrested Monday on one count of reckless homicide by operation of a boat involving the crash that resulted in the death of Millicent McDonald.

Natural Resources Department Capt. Robert McCullough told a Clarendon County magistrate that McDonald and Walters were both operating personal watercraft. He said Walters crashed into McDonald. She never regained consciousness.

McCullough said he could not estimate the speed of any of the watercraft involved.

Walters’ brother James acted as his attorney and told the magistrate his brother was undergoing counseling.
