Lee Co. schools cancel homecoming after 2 deaths

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Officials haven’t said when homecoming activities will be held at Lee County Schools after being canceled because of deaths of two Bishopville teens and the arrest of eight.

The State newspaper reported (http://bit.ly/1rbKWZO) that the activities originally were scheduled for Friday. In a post on the district’s website, Lee County Schools Superintendent Wanda Andrews said the activities were postponed because the community is “hurting and wrestling with tragedy and grief.”

The Lee County Sheriff’s Department says nine people, including eight teenagers, were arrested in the deaths of two Bishopville teens over drug money.

Authorities say 17-year-old Shakez Bracey was killed Sept. 26, and 18-year-old Dontrell Fortune was killed the next day in retaliation.
