Childress Shooting Anniversary
(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., — A year after Martha Childress was struck by a stray bullet while waiting for a cab here in the heart of five points she appears to have the routine down pat. Twitter pictures show a cheerful, vibrant 19 year old still posing for pictures and even dressing up for halloween. she may be bound to a wheelchair but she’s in no way bound. The same thing could be said for Columbia Police and university officials who are continually making improvements to ensure student safety on and off campus. Childress whose been busy with school and rehab and made a visit back to USC to throw out the first pitch last November. but city officials have been busy too. Most recently working on safe haven zones in five points. the locations at Harden, College streets and Saluda avenue will be outfitted but portable lighting and signage to let cabs, buses shuttles know exactly where to pick students up. Most importantly more police will be on hand to make sure those going to the entertainment district to have a good time – will be able to do just that without having to constantly look over their shoulder.
