Officials: Columbia Airport Cleared of Ebola Threat

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–Emergency medical crews respond to Columbia Metro Airport with a sick passenger on board an inbound flight.

According to an airport spokesperson United Flight 5723 from Washington DC to Columbia requested emergency response teams meet them upon its arrival.

After a preliminary interview with the pilot, officials say the threat of ebola was determined to be minimal and a team boarded the plane without hazmat gear.

The passenger in question was assessed and it was determined that he did not demonstrate any symptoms of ebola nor had he visited any countries associated with the ebola virus.

In a statement from the airport, a spokesperson says,”Ultimately,  Lexington county personnel and airport staff operated out of an abundance of caution and this event demonstrates our readiness to respond to all medical emergency situations.”
