THE BREVARD SERIES “¢ This game is the ninth meeting between Newberry and the Tornados. “¢ Newberry has a 7-1 lead in the all-time series. “¢ The Tornados did not score a touchdown in the first five meetings between the two schools. “¢ Newberry trailed 21-20 in the fourth quarter of last year‘s game but won a 28-21 decision on the strength of three touchdown catches and a 2-point conversion by Corey Washington. THE COACHES NEWBERRY: Todd Knight (Gardner-Webb, 1989) is in his sixth season as Newberry‘s head coach. He has a 31-30 record and a record of 5-4 against teams ranked in the AFCA Divsion II Top 25. He has a 19-20 record against the South Atlantic Conference. In 2009, Knight led Newberry to a 6-4 record and became the first Newberry head coach to record a winning record in his inaugural season since Reed Charpia in 1978. In 2010, Knight led Newberry to a 4-6 record, as well as the 2011 season. The Wolves went 5-6 overall in the 2012 season and achieved a ranking as high as No. 25 nationally. In 2013, he led the Wolves to a 9-3 overall record, making the school‘s second appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Newberry finished the season ranked No. 23 nationally. Knight is 4-1 all-time against Brevard. BREVARD: Paul Hamilton (Appalachian State, 1981) is in his 16th season as a collegiate head coach and eighth as the head coach of the Tornados. He has a 67-119 (.361) overall record. He has a 1-6 record against Newberry.
