Women’s Golf No. 1 in Golfstat, No. 2 in Golfweek

COLUMBIA, S.C. (USC SID) — After completing the finest fall season in program history last weekend, South Carolina stayed at the No. 1 spot in the Golfstat Relative Rankings and dropped to No. 2 in Golfweek/Sagarin this week. In their four fall tournaments, the Gamecocks collected a pair of wins at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate and the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate along with a runner-up finish at the Tar Heel Invitational and a third-place result at last weekend‘s Landfall Tradition. Both senior Justine Dreher and freshman Nanna Madsen have captured individual titles as well. Playing the seventh-toughest schedule, the Gamecocks have the nation’s best results against top 25 teams, boasting a 29-3-0 record. Defending NCAA Champions Duke are the only other team in the country post 20 wins against ranked opponents, holding a 26-11-0 record. Washington, Golfweek‘s No. 1 ranked team, is 3-3-0 against the top 25. The Gamecocks reached No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings for the first time in program history on Oct. 3 after their head-turning win at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. Last week marked the first time South Carolina had been ranked No. 1 in the Golfstat Relative Rankings after checking in at No. 2 in the season‘s first release. South Carolina will look to maintain its strong fall season this spring. The Gamecocks’ first tournament of 2015 will be the Florida State Match-Up (Feb. 13-15, 2015) at the Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla. South Carolina won the 2014 Florida State Match-Up.
