2 faces charges in high school football brawl

CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) — Police in Camden have charged two teens with assault because of a brawl that followed a high school football game.

Police told local media outlets Thursday that one player from Camden High School and one player from Dreher High School in Columbia have been charged with third-degree assault and battery.

Capt. Mike Stone says investigators used enhanced video software to identify the teens assaulting coaches or school administrators who were trying to break up the fight.

The teens could be sentenced to up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine if they are convicted.

The fight occurred Oct. 17 after Camden beat Dreher 39 to 30.

The South Carolina High School League on Thursday rejected the teams’ appeal of playoff suspensions. One other appeal can be filed.
