FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) _ Soldiers in training at Fort Jackson will be treated in a newly-renovated health clinic with room for about 12,000 soldiers every year. Fort Jackson spokeswoman Nichole Riley says Tuesday’s ribbon cutting at the McWethy Troop Medical Clinic opens renovated primary care, physical therapy, radiology and lab units. The $18.5 million project added new heating and cooling units, plumbing, windows, flooring, ceiling and parking. Besides the construction, another $2.5 million was spent on new equipment including a digital X-ray machine, lab equipment and furnishings throughout the clinic. The two-year renovation means health providers will be able to see about 420 patients a day and fill about 9,500 prescriptions annually. About 50,000 soldiers come to Fort Jackson, the Army’s largest training installation, for basic and advanced training every year.
