SC State releases evaluation of school president

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina State University has released the performance evaluation of university president George Cooper after university officials refused to do so last week.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (http://bit.ly/oLelOp) Cooper scored a 2.9 out of a possible 5, a slight improvement from last year when he received a 2.6.

University attorney Ed Givens said board chairman Jonathan Pinson has apologized for not releasing the evaluation last week when requested by reporters. He said that Pinson made a mistake.

South Carolina Press Association attorney Jay Bender said last week the document is public and should be released under the Freedom of Information Act.

After last year’s evaluation the board decided not to renew Cooper’s contract. But he was rehired by a board with new members about two weeks later.
