Haley Holds Town Hall Meeting
(COLUMBIA, S.C.) Governor Nikki Haley held a town hall meeting where she released her legislative report card failing nearly 30 lawmakers for their performances. The Governor says there are some things that can be improved upon and is confident that her administration will do everything in their power to get it done, starting with unemployment. Since January, Governor Haley says she’s announced more than 13 thousand jobs. Unfortunately, the unemployment rate is still at an all time high. Governor Haley says it’s due in large part to an expanding workforce that is seeing more seniors and college graduates. Another pressing issue the Governor discussed in reference to her 2012 agenda, was ways to solve the state deficit. Haley says State Workers will need to prepare for some changes in order to receive the retirement that was promised them. Some of those changes include, retiring in 30 years instead of 28, seeing a smaller return of 7 and a half percent instead of 8. Some employees may even temporarily lose the annual cost of living increases they have had until now. The Governor says ” Right now I am afraid State workers won’t get the retirement promised to them if we don’t make some changes. We are spending more than we are making. If we don’t do something we will go bankrupt.”
