Richland sheriff partnering for peace walk

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Richland County’s top cop is partnering up with several organizations for a walk to focus on peace from gun violence.

On Saturday, Sheriff Leon Lott and groups including public schools, civic organizations and the Faith Coalition on Gun Violence are putting on a peace walk in downtown Columbia.

Participants will gather at Zion Baptist Church and walk to the north side steps of the Statehouse. There will be time for prayer and music in recognition of victims of gun violence and their families during a program that follows.

Victims and survivors of violence and their families will also share personal stories.

The event is free and open to the public.
