SC Gold Star mom holds veteran appreciation lunch

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — The mother of a South Carolina military man who lost his life in Iraq in 2003 is holding a luncheon to show appreciation to other military veterans.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg (http://bit.ly/1y3fEJY ) reports that Attorney General Alan Wilson is scheduled to speak at Saturday’s event at 2 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Orangeburg.

Elaine Johnson’s son, Spec. Darius Jennings, was killed in action in Fallujah on Nov. 2, 2003. He was assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment from Fort Carson, Colorado, at the time of his death.

Johnson says the event is held to honor those veterans who gave of themselves with their service, and to remind them as Veterans Day approaches that Americans appreciate their service.
