Hunnewell Trial Closing Arguments

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., — ” just for the record on camera…i didn’t do it, i’m innocent.” Lorenzo Young never took the stand in his own defense – but did make that statement exclusively to our camera as he was escorted out of the courtroom wearing handcuffs and shackles. The jury will now have to figure out if Young is telling the truth. And the prosecution says it’s a burden of proof their ready to take on head first. “well, i should not have killed that (expletive) those were the words of Lorenzo Young. i didn’t mean to do it. those were the words of Trenton Barnes.” But prosecutors argued the one voice that has not been heard is that of the victim, 33 year old Kelly Hunnewell who they say was killed for no reason at all. ” For what? nothing. absolutely nothing, because that is the value that the defendants Lorenzo Young and Trenton Barnes placed on a human life that day.” But the defense argued the state had not proven their case beyond a reasonable doubt. And that even with hundreds of pieces of evidence – they still could not definitively determine that their clients were in fact the two men seen in the surveillance video. ” You can throw all of these items out. all of the photographs, all of these diagrams, documents what does all of this tell you. a woman was shot, there were two guns, 6 bullets casings and two different caliber’s.” As both sides wrangled over details, Kelly Hunnewell’s oldest daughter appeared in the courtroom for the first time. The teen not much younger then the suspects accused of killing her mother. A point Barnes’ defense attorney made sure the jury took note of. “Before you take someone’s liberty you need to be sure you have it right. well members of the jury, make sure you have this one right because there’s a 16 year old child on trial for a murder he did not do.” Deliberations Begin at 9:30 Wednesday morning.
