Government warns air bag maker

DETROIT (AP) – A dispute is escalating between U.S. safety regulators and the Japanese air bag maker Takata. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is giving the company until Tuesday to declare a defect in the inflators it makes for driver’s side air bags, and to agree to a nationwide recall. Until now, the recall has been in effect only in high-humidity states.
