(WOLO) — For the first time in more than a decade SC State basketball is off to a 2-0 start in conference play. The Bulldogs (3-5, 2-0 MEAC) made it back-to-back home MEAC wins Monday night with a 71-66 victory in Orangeburg over Bethune-Cookman (3-7, 0-1). SC State led 43-19 with 18:02 left in the game, but Bethune-Cookman battled all the way back on the road to tie it at 62 with 2:22 left. The Bulldogs got a big three-pointer from Edward Stephens, their only field goal in the final 12 minutes, to retake control of the game. Down the stretch the home team hit enough free throws to hold on for the 71-66 win that puts them 2-0 in the MEAC. The last time SC State started 2-0 in conference play was 2002-2003, Cy Alexander’s final season as Bulldogs head coach.
