Harvest Hope in need of food for the holidays, holding drive-thru drop off
Harvest Hope Food Bank is in immediate need of food to help feed thousands this holiday season.
Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) — Harvest Hope Food Bank is in immediate need of food to help feed thousands this holiday season. The daily average number of families that visit the food bank doubles during this time. The community is being asked to donate non-perishable food items.
“We have seen unprecedented numbers coming through this emergency food pantry this past summer and this fall,” said Harvest Hope CEO Wendy Broderick. “5,000 families in the Midlands will be counting on us to have a holiday meal.”
Harvest Hope is preparing for the holidays, as this time of year is critical for food banks.
“The need is great year-round, but we see the need rise significantly through the holidays,” said Broderick.
On Wednesday, a drive-thru food drop off will be held at Harvest Hope. The public can come to the location on 2220 Shop Road in Columbia and drop off non-perishable food items from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The donations from that will help fulfill some of the holiday needs.
“We’re making it easy for community members to come out and donate their nonperishable products,” said Broderick.
Every donation helps to feed thousands of people in the Midlands this holiday season.
“Every gift, every dollar makes a difference to help us serve our community,” said Broderick. “It’s incredibly heartwarming to see the response to this call for action. Incredibly. And I think we are an unbelievably philanthropic community, and at this time of year especially.”
