51-year-old man drowns in Dillon pond

DILLON, S.C. (AP) — A Dillon man has drowned in a pond after his boat overturned.

The Morning News of Florence reported (http://bit.ly/qBnfMl ) reported that the body of 51-year-old Leroy McDowell was recovered by Dillon County Rescue squad divers.

The body was recovered shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, about three hours after McDowell’s boat overturned. Family members told officials McDowell did not know how to swim.

Coroner Donnie Grimsley says an autopsy conducted at Grand Strand Hospital in Myrtle Beach confirmed the cause of death as drowning.
