During Wednesday’s signing day at Dutch Fork High School senior 3-star running back Matt Colburn was in high spirits, after losing a scholarship offer from Louisville just 48 hours earlier. On Monday, Louisville withdrew its offer to Colburn, after the two parties verbally agreed to a scholarship eight months ago. “Obviously my commitment wasn’t the same as theirs,” said Colburn, who was South Carolina’s reigning ‘Mr. Football’. Louisville lost three defensive backs to the NFL draft this offseason, causing the school to fill scholarships in the secondary instead of positions such as running back. “I did not expect this,” said Colburn. “When I made my commitment in early June, that was obviously so I could get this out of the way and just focus on my season.” Colburn made his official visit to Louisville two weeks ago. “I hung out with all the players and coaches,” said Colburn. “It was a nice experience. I had been committed for eight months, so I didn’t think anything else.” Now the running back says the final schools in consideration are Georgia Southern, Wake Forest and Marshall. “One door closes and another one opens,” said Colburn. “I’m just moving on forward and looking forward to my next opportunity.” Four other players from Dutch Fork signed letters of intent Wednesday: K Brandon Bass – Georgia Southern LB Lane Ecton – Georgia Southern DB Chris Parrott – SC State DB Jeremy Addison – Catawba College
