Columbia city employee dies in construction accident

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Richland County officials say a Columbia city employee is dead after a construction accident while he was working on an underground pipe.

Richland Coroner Gary Watts says 31-year-old Marvis Myers of Columbia died Friday. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.

Myers was working about 6 feet below ground level when the hole caved in. He was repairing a pipe in downtown Columbia.
