SC State on the Road Against Coppin State Saturday

BALTIMORE, MD—The South Carolina State Bulldogs return to league play on the road Saturday (Feb.6) against Coppin State at the Physical Education Complex Arena. Tipoff is 4 p.m. Coppin State leads the all-time series 30-27aganist South Carolina State. The Bulldogs last win over the Eagles was on Jan. 18, 2010 (87-65) and their last road win was in 2006. The Bulldogs (9-15 overall, 6-3 in the MEAC) one of the hottest young teams in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) have won three straight and is coming off a impressive, 80-48, thrashing of St. Andrews University on Wednesday (Feb.4) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. South Carolina State also tally nearly seven steals per game while forcing almost 13 turnovers. Freshman guard Edward Stephens leads the way in scoring with 11.4 points, while sophomore guard Greg Mortimer chips 8.2 ppg and Karon Wright 8.1. Junior forward Darryl Palmer is the leader on the board with 7.0 rebounds, 7.2 points and 2.2 blocks per game. Meanwhile, Coppin State (4-18 overall, 3-6 in the league) knocked off Morgan State on ESPNU on Monday (Fe.2) 80-67. Senior forward Arnold Fripp led the Eagles with 22 pts (8-15 FG), nine rebounds in the win over the Bears. Fripp and guard Sterling Smith leads Coppin State in scoring with 11.7 point per contest each, while guard Taariq Cepas adds 11.5 ppg. CSU ranks 1st the conference in scoring average (70.4), 4th in three-point field goals percent (33.2), 1st in three-pointers made (9.2), 4th in assist (12.5) and 3rd turnover margin (+1.09).
