Man wounded in shooting involving Lexington sheriff’s deputy

IRMO, S.C. (AP) — A man has been shot and wounded by a Lexington County sheriff’s deputy at a home in Irmo.

Sheriff Lewis McCarty said officers were called to a home early Tuesday. McCarty said the man visiting the home was suicidal and had just been released from a hospital.

The details were not clear on how the shooting occurred. A sheriff’s spokesman did not immediately return calls early Tuesday.

The man was undergoing surgery at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia. There was no word on his condition.

No one else was hurt.
