Man charged with reckless homicide in crash near Columbia
FOREST ACRES, S.C. (AP) — Authorities have charged a man with reckless homicide in a January crash in Forest Acres that killed an 81-year-old man.
The State newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1dgCPfW ) that Joe Busby was arrested Friday on a charge of reckless homicide with death caused by injury from a vehicle.
Troopers say Busby’s truck hit the SUV 81-year-old William Carroll was riding in on state Highway 12 in the Columbia suburb on Jan. 24. Carroll died a month later from his injuries.
Carroll’s family says troopers told them Busby was driving 77 mph on the crowded road which has a speed limit of 35 mph when the crash happened.
Busby faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. He was released on a $20,000 bond. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
