Ace Helps Martin Edge Kuchar In WGC Match Play

Call it beginner’s luck if you want.  Former Clemson standout and Greenwood native Ben Martin is calling it the best shot of his life.

Wednesday at the WGC-Cadillac Match Play in San Francisco, his first WGC event, Martin aced the 243-yard par three 17th hole.  That helped the #67 player in the world upset 14th-ranked Matt Kuchar.

Martin’s ace Wednesday is the second ace by a former Tiger in the last five years to make headlines in the golf world.  In October 2010, former Spring Valley High School and Clemson star Jonathan Byrd holed out in a playoff to win the Justin Timberlake Shriner Hospital Open.
