Carolina Mudcats bus wrecks in Columbus County, several hurt

CHADBOURN, N.C. (AP) — Several players have been hurt after the Carolinas Mudcats team bus wrecked in Columbus County.

Multiple media outlets reported the bus was carrying the team to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, when it flipped on its side near Chadbourn shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Emergency Services Director Kay Worley told WECT-TV (http://bit.ly/1E3unGb) that eight players and a trainer were taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered to be serious.

The Mudcats are a Class-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The team had left Salem, Virginia, on Monday night.

Worley said 33 people were on the bus.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation. A spokesman for the North Carolina Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to a phone message Tuesday morning.
