Cherokee sheriff’s deputy fired after arrest

GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) — A Cherokee County sheriff’s deputy has been fired after he was arrested on domestic violence charges.

Sheriff Steve Mueller says 32-year-old Lt. Christopher Paul Wyatt of Gaffney was charged with aggravated criminal domestic violence after police were called to his home Sunday morning.

The sheriff’s office says deputies also responded and took Wyatt’s guns and badge.

Wyatt had started at the county jail in 2002 and became a deputy a year later. He had been the sheriff’s department training coordinator for the past two years.

Mueller says Wyatt’s wife was treated for minor injuries and released.
