WR Johnson joins Clemson football

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson has added receiver Denzel Johnson to its football signees for next season.

Johnson could not sign earlier because of academic concerns. But Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said on Wednesday that Johnson signed scholarship papers and is expected to report to campus this summer.

Johnson is a 6-foot-2, 187-pound player from Columbia. He played receiver and defensive back at A.C. Flora High School.

Johnson had 69 catches for 910 yards and 12 touchdowns. On defense, he made 60 tackles and had two interceptions.

Johnson had three catches in the North-South game for standout seniors from South Carolina and was named one of the game’s MVPs.
