CIU Athletics Director Earns National Award

(CIU SID) — Columbia International University Athletics Director Kim Abbott has been recognized for her Christian character by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). Abbott was awarded the Game Plan 4 LIFE Female Athletic Staff Character Award at the NCCAA Hall of Fame Banquet held during the NCCAA‘s national convention May 28 in Indiana. CIU is a member of the NCCAA. The Character Award goes to student-athletes and athletics staff “who epitomize the Christian character qualities of love, integrity, faith and excellence.” CIU men‘s soccer coach James Whitaker describes Abbott as “a coach’s AD,” working tirelessly to make sure her coaches and players have everything they need to be successful. He noted that Abbott does not lead from above others; instead, she humbly serves others. Whitaker also says that Abbott strives daily to live and work in an ethical manner consistent with a follower of Jesus, doing things the right way and encouraging others to do the same. one space Abbott made CIU history in 2010 when she became the school‘s first athletics director.
