Deputies in Richland Co warn about phone scam

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says someone is after your money, and deputies want to make sure that you don’t fall prey to this latest scam. They say beware of someone, calling and posing as an official with their department. The caller claims there’s a warrant out on you for a fraudulent check, and while you’re on the phone, the caller contacts the receptionist with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, asking if he’s on the phone with them. When the receptionist replies, “Yes,” the caller says the department needs to send a deputy to your house then hangs up. The caller continues on the phone with you, asking for money. Deputies say don’t fall for it. Hang up and report the call.
