Sheriff’s Department holds Ryan Rawl memorial event

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — You may be in the stages of planning a family gathering for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, which includes barbecues and fireworks. You can also have a chance to honor a fallen soldier and Richland County Deputy, Ryan Rawl. The Sheriff’s Department is hosting a memorial event. It’s a workout that begins July Fourth at 8:30 in the morning and poses numerous physical challenges around the State House. To register, contact Deputy Katelyn Jasak at 576-3491 or kjasak@rcsd.net. Registration is due Wednesday, July 1. It cost $20 per person, $40 per team. On-site registration is $25. Cash and check will only be accepted. Checks to be made out to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. A suicide bomber killed Rawl, who was in Afghanistan, back in June 2012. The memorial event recognizes the three year anniversary of his death along with the service of both the military and first responders.
