School probes hazing allegations on championship team
LILBURN, Ga. (AP) — Officials with Gwinnett County Public Schools say they’re investigating allegations of hazing involving players on Parkview High School’s state championship baseball team.
School system spokeswoman Sloan Roach said the activity involving older students and incoming freshmen happened during a tournament in Charleston, South Carolina.
The school said in a statement that the older students entered about three hotel rooms of the younger students last Friday and began to wrestle with them. There was also an allegation that one of the older students had “inappropriate physical contact” with one of the younger boys.
School officials say the coach reported the behavior to administrators, and the school system’s police department also has been notified.
Parkview, in the northeast Atlanta suburb of Lilburn, is the 2015 Georgia state champion in class 6A.
