South Carolina host to Army’s 240th birthday celebration

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Members of the U.S. Army, their supporters, spouses and friends are celebrating the Army’s 240th birthday with a traditional formal ball.

South Carolina’s celebration is being held Saturday with the motto: “240 years of selfless service to the nation.”

The ball begins at 5 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center with cocktails, dinner, a guest speaker and entertainment by the 282nd Army Band.

The Army Birthday Ball is a formal event. Attire for civilians is formal evening wear or black tie. Military uniform is the Army Service Uniform, in Dress Blues-Dress Mess and the equivalent for other services.

There is a sliding scale of ticket prices depending upon rank.
